XC Round 8 Wrap Up
The hot weather, family commitments and riders in Perth for the Nationals kept the numbers down for round 8, whilst this was initially disappointing as there were more social riders out the day before, it was quickly forgotten by the outstanding results.
Jason Morgan burned the track averaging 31 minute laps followed by Shane Wood 90 seconds later. Doug Pollock came home 1 minute later. Check out the Veterans and Masters results to see the first 7 riders home after 3 hot laps separated by 6 minutes! Nic Hoye won the Opens and Dominic Pietro pushed hard to win the U15’s. Ben Metcalfe, who rode the track the day before in hotter weather, finally beat his best mate Riley King (broken spoke) with a blistering 38 minute lap in the U13’s. He brought a smile to my face as he finished with arms raised in Tour De France style , mind you Riley was only 3 minutes behind.
The new section of single track was positively commented on by all and credit goes to Andy Flahive, Mark Ward, Scott Carson, Steve and Dom Pietro for their work mid week after work. Numerous people asked me when this track maintenance was happening as it was not on the website. It only happened when the guys phoned each other and said they going for a ride after work and it happened. If you want to be involved (kids included) for an afternoon of bush gardening get in touch with me to keep everyone in the loop.
The 1st Nationals in Perth resulted with Josh Carlson clocking the fastest lap but getting a flat to finish 3rd overall in the Elites. Callum Carson , in his first race as an U17 finished a creditable 4th, which are great results and reflects on the standard of competition that the Appin track is producing.
Our next race is 11th Dec , so talk your hesitant friends to come along we could even put in a modified course for new /social riders to get them involved and out there smiling or swimming in the creek with Wayne Price and his bike at the start of a race.
